Las Cruces Country Club Site Rezoned

LAS CRUCES – The goal to develop the former site of the Las Cruces Country Club cleared a major hurdle Monday after the Las Cruces City Council approved a transformative rezoning of the area, which will pave the way for a mixed-use development to move forward.
In a 7-0 vote, the city council accepted the recommendations of the Las Cruces Planning and Zoning Commission, which approved of staff recommendations for the zone change in January.
The new zoning is intended to conform with “character areas” featured in the Apodaca Blueprint, a document which provides a long-term vision for 730 acres of the city, including the former country club site, that was created using public input and was adopted by the council in 2018.
The country club property primarily makes up Focus Area A of the blueprint — the focus area amounts to 158 acres. The focus area is further subdivided into multiple suggested land-use areas which include commercial business centers, mixed-use centers, high-density townhouses, single-family homes and green space.
